Follow the medicine to its source

Who will make and send the medicine?

Request the pharmacy's full name before committing. Check it separately from the person writing your prescription.

Check the supplying pharmacy

Where can I check a pharmacy?

Maryland's Board of Pharmacy has a free search for pharmacy businesses. It also has a search for pharmacists.

Compare the pharmacy name and state with the details from the service and any product label. Ask about a mismatch instead of guessing that a similar name means the same business.

What if it comes from another state?

The Maryland rules checked September 28, 2026, require a pharmacy in another state that mails prescriptions here to hold a Maryland permit and have a Maryland-licensed pharmacist responsible for its patients in this state.

If it sends made-to-order medicines that must be sterile, meaning free of living germs, it must also submit a recent inspection report.

The report must show that it meets the standard for making medicine free of living germs.

A sterile preparation contains no living germs.

Request the names of the facility preparing the product and the one sending it, plus contact details for a pharmacist who can answer questions.

Does a permit settle every question?

A pharmacy licence establishes that the business is allowed to operate.

It does not show that every medicine is right for you.

As of September 26, 2026, registration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or a drug directory entry does not establish approval.
