Move from a broad label to a named product

What medicine are we talking about?

Ask for both details: the medicine's full name and its form, whether a tablet, shot or something else. Write down that product name; a phrase such as peptide therapy is too broad.

Identify the medicine and its approval status

Why are there different names?

The ingredient is the substance in a medicine that produces its effect. Ozempic and Wegovy contain the ingredient semaglutide. Mounjaro and Zepbound contain the ingredient tirzepatide.

Both brands of semaglutide, Ozempic and Wegovy, have approved tablet and injection forms, as checked September 26, 2026. An injection is a shot. Ask for the form as well as the brand name.

For eligible patients, semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Zepbound) have approved uses for managing weight.

Semaglutide (Ozempic) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro) have approved uses for type 2 diabetes in the groups named on each label.

Request two details from your care professional: the precise product name and its approved treatment use. Keep that answer separate from a general promise about peptides.

What does approval tell me?

FDA (the Food and Drug Administration) examines the evidence for a product before approving it for its named uses.

It is not a blanket approval of peptide therapy as a whole.

Federal rules checked September 26, 2026, give no FDA approval to a compounded medicine, even when an approved medicine contains the same ingredient.

Does a drug code prove approval?

In FDA's drug directory, the identifying number for a product is called a National Drug Code (NDC). Neither a directory listing nor the code establishes product approval, according to FDA's explanation checked September 26, 2026.

If an offer points to an NDC listing, ask to see the approved label for that exact product. If the medicine is made to order instead, ask why it is being chosen and how it differs.

Keep a copy of the exact product name with your visit notes, especially if a later message uses a shorter name.
